This was a bit of natural heaven. Visited: March 2006

We stayed at the Green Roof Inn for just one night. We stayed at the Rex Grenadian for most of the holiday, so it was a wonderful escape to a rural, traditional setting with goats and chickens.

I loved it here, as it felt like a real Caribbean hideaway. I loved this island. It is magical. Paradise Beach was so beautiful, and it was just the two of us there that day.

The Green Roof was in a beautiful setting. The rooms were basic with an old fashioned roof fan and mosquito net. But this only added to its charm. The shutters opened onto a beautiful garden. The sound of goats, dogs and roosters at night was great.

My only negative was the breakfast very basic - just toast and cereal. The restaurant was not open that night, so we could not comment on that.

We ate at a sweet restaurant called Callaloo by the Sea - which was great. If you like walking, then it is awesome for the views and the flowers are beautiful.

I could have stayed here all fortnight - even though there were just a few restaurants. One evening, we asked a restaurant if they were open. The girl replied "Yes, but we have no food." Brilliant!

It was nice for a couple of nights. Visited: February 2006

My wife and I stayed at the Green Roof Inn for one night. It was comfortable, and breakfast was good. It was no Hilton, but the location was beautiful and very close to downtown.

I thought the price per room was high for what we got, even though we did have an awesome view of the blue green ocean.

Try the snorkeling trip with Dave through the Tobago Cays and the Grenadines, that made the trip worth every penny.

Quaint and pretty, but I couldn't sleep. Visited: December 2002

The Green Roof Inn on the island of Carriacou in Grenada is a very quaint and pretty place to stay. The rooms are tastefully furnished in a traditional semi-plantation style, with lots of voile and green and white paint. There is a nice view of the bay and access to the sea (but no beach). Breakfast is included in the price of the room and dinner is available every day except Monday, when you have to make your own arrangements.

If you're looking for a pretty and romantic place to stay on Carriacou then the Green Roof Inn may fit the bill. It's probably the most expensive place on the island, but also the most stylish.

However, in addition to the monetary cost you also have two other factors to consider:

1) Comfort: You have to like the heat. There is no air conditioning and the ceiling fans run slowly and hence are woefully inadequate. Also, at least one of the rooms doesn't even have a fan. And you have to like small uncomfortable beds. They may look nice in the photos, but just try sleeping on them in the 85 degree heat and 80% humidity of Carriacou!

2) Noise: If you like the sound of cockerels crowing, dogs barking, pigs snorting and kids shouting then you'll love the Green Roof Inn. Oh, and I forgot to mention the goats! Both nights we stayed there we were woken in the small hours by the dogs. The other noise was incessant.

In summary, if you're cold blooded and deaf you may find the Green Roof Inn very comfortable. If not, then take lots of photos and try to forget the rest.

Charming and romantic Visited: December 2000

We were originally booked at another hotel, which turned out to be unacceptable. We called the Green Roof Inn and they were able to accommodate us at an even better price. We stayed for only three nights, but when I think back on our two-week stay in Grenada and the Grenadines, this is the place that makes me smile and feel wistful.

The property is beautiful and well kept and the views are magnificent. There is not a beach per se but you do have access to the water and you can hear the surf from the balconies. Carriacou is a charming island but it did not seem to be the type of place for sunbathing on the beach. Diving and hiking were our main activities. The Inn is a short walk down the hill into the town of Carriacou.

The rooms are bright and clean with open windows, mosquito nets and eco-facilities. They are simple (no phone, radio or television) and not very spacious, but adequate. Most of our time was spent outside on the balcony/porch enjoying the view.

The meals were delicious and the open-air dining room was a wonderful way to start and end the day. (We also recommend The Round House for dinner on the nights when the Green Roof Inn is not open for dinner.)

We stayed while the owner was taking a "sabbatical." His brother Joakim and Cia were there in his place. They were charming and friendly and obviously had a love of the island. They and the rest of the staff went out of their way to help us and make our stay comfortable and memorable.

We will definitely stay at The Green Roof Inn during our next visit to Carriacou.
