Siesta Hotel was still closed for repairs. Visited: February 2006 |

I visited the Siesta Hotel in mid-February 2006, and found the complete hotel unstaffed and closed to the public. At that time, they had not yet repaired and refurbished the hotel which was badly damaged by Hurricane Ivan. |

Could do better. Visited: December 2002 |

We stayed at the Siesta for a week taking a one-bedroom apartment and a separate double room.
Once we arrived it became clear that the Siesta is pretty much the "cheap and cheerful" alternative to the Allamanda Beach Resort a short walk away and owned by the same company. This is right on the beach and appears to be the company's flagship hotel.
The Siesta, however, is a 5-minute walk from Grand Anse beach, the local Mall and some restaurants etc. It has a small swimming pool and views of the sea from the upper-floor rooms. It's not on the beach and is somewhat cheaper (and a bit older) than the Allamanda. There is a restaurant, but this serves only breakfasts (other meals are at the Allamanda), and breakfast is not included in all packages.
Unfortunately, as well as being off the beach, the hotel had a few other drawbacks - the worst of which was the uncomfortable beds. We had 2 rooms with 3 beds in all, and all were uncomfortable. In other respects the rooms were okay and clean enough, with air conditioning in the bedrooms, but they were generally uninspiring and a bit rundown. Also the kitchen in the apartment could do with some updating and provision of a microwave and toaster etc., there is no proper satellite or cable TV, and local phone calls are charged to your bill even though locals calls are actually free! For the price I would have expected a bit better.
It seems that the hotel management has decided to concentrate their resources on the Allamanda - and in my opinion neglect the Siesta and its guests. To be fair, when asked they did provide a toaster within 15 minutes, but we got the impression that the reason you pay less at the Siesta is not just because of the walk to the beach.

A woderful hotel and optimal location Visited: March 2000 |

My husband and I went to Siesta in March. We had one of the best vacations we have ever had! The location was perfect. We were a 5 minute walk from the beach. Our room was very nice and clean. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous. The breakfasts were great - the best we had on the island. There were lots of good restaurants nearby for lunch and dinner - (the Siesta does not serve lunch and dinner).
We could not have had a better time and plan to visit again next year. |
